Designed Objects workshop at Haman Cross studio 4-24-19

Earlier in the semester, students worked with Carrie Wright and Chanina Katz from the School of the Art Institute's Designed Objects Class - instructor Eric Hotchkiss - to create designs for food forest signage

.
Carrie and Chanina took CCA student designs and refined them for full scale signage to place in the food forest. They used a laser cutter to create the final work.

Today students saw their pencil and paper designs come to life and worked in an artist studio to complete the build and paint designs they had created.Today was the build out day at the studio of local artist and SAIC instructor, Haman Cross.
Signage designed by CCA students now laser cut to scale and ready for processing.
Soon to be a sign for identifying plant life in the food forest
Chanina from SAIC works with CCA students to prime and paint the sign frames.

So much painting to accomplish in 1 day!

There were a lot signs for identifying food forest plants!
Ms. Zook helps to paint the signage that will identify the different layer of the food forest

CCA students work with Haman Cross and learn to use the jig saw and cut out a large sign in the shape of a tree.

Haman shared his studio with students stating that when they entered the space they entered as artists, ready to imagine and create their vision.
Odile Compagnon, architect and SAIC instructor works with Chanina to paint the letters for our sign. Odile has worked with CCA students on the food forest since its beginning in the fall of 2017.

Carrie Wright, SAIC student project leader talks with Jacklyn Jancunski about the project. Jacklyn is an artist and program director at SAIC's Nichols Tower studios in Homan Square.
Finished signs complete with plexiglas inserts for writing plant names with paint markers.

Odile helped us to apply the vinyl lettering to our signs!
