CCA students visit the Greater West Town Community Development Project

Students participating in our designed objects collaboration with SAIC spent the morning visiting the Greater West Town Training Program located at 500 N.Sacramento.

The GWDP offers two job training programs - woodworking and shipping/receiving (both FREE) - for adults 18 and up. Students toured the jobs training program and had the opportunity to see demonstrations with a CNC router and a laser cutter.

The field trip was part of the project as students are learning how to build, design and lay claim to objects created for use in the food forest - signage, benches, platforms and lighting.

After the trip students returned to CCA to work with SAIC students on assembling model benches. The components were cut using a laser at the SAIC wood shop. The bench was designed by Odile Compagnon.  Stay tuned - next up students will build 2 benches full scale and create design work to make signature pieces for our food forest.

Many thanks to the Greater West Town Community Development Project and the students of SAIC Designed Objects class for making this day possible.
